PART-1 : UNFAIR DEATH FROM DIRECT REFERENCE

BORI Critical Edition

Karna Parv, Section-67

Translation by B.Debroy -
“On seeing this, Karna again invoked brahmastra against Dhananjaya. He showered down arrows and tried to extricate his chariot. Pandava countered those weapons with his own weapons.

Kounteya then released another weapon, beloved of the fire god, towards Karna. It blazed fiercely.

Karna pacified the fire through a varuna weapon. He covered all the directions with clouds and it was as dark as a rainy day.

Pandaveya was not frightened. While Radheya looked on, the valiant one used the vayavya weapon and dispelled all the clouds.

EXPLAINATION –

1) First Karna released his Brahmastra and began to extract wheel of his chariot. It proves that Karna was weaponless, chariotless and heedless

2) Arjuna had countered brahmastra and shot agneyastra. Karna was extracting wheel of his chariot still arjuna attacked him it proves that arjuna was really coward

3) While releasing wheel of his chariot, karna released varunastra. No narration about method used by karna to release varunastra. It proves that karna was extracting wheel and fighting at a time. His aim was releasing weapons and lifting wheel.

4) After releasing varunastra no narration about Karna in upcoming events. Karna was silent in rest of battle. It proves that after releasing varunastra, Karna continued to extract wheel of chariot (his Incomplete work)

5) Arjuna countered varunastra by Vayavyastra still no narration about position of karna by sanjaya

6) Arjuna attacked standard of karna's chariot still no narration about position of karna by sanjaya

7) Arjuna invoked anjalika astra and aimed at Karna. Finally Lord shiva killed Karna aimed by Arjuna still no narration about position of karna by sanjaya

8) Sanjaya never mentioned exact position of Karna after releasing varunastra. He was extracting wheel of chariot when he released varunastra so we can safely conclude that karna was lifting wheel of chariot in upcoming events that’s why he was silent in upcoming scene

RESULT –

KARNA WAS EXTRACTING WHEEL OF CHARIOT WHEN LORD SHIVA KILLED KARNA AIMED BY ARJUNA

a) Karna was weaponless
b) Karna was chariotless
c) Karna was heedless (not engaged in battle)

PART-2 : UNFAIR DEATH OF KARNA FROM CROSS REFERENCE

BORI Critical Edition

Shalya Parv, Section-61

A) GOLDEN WORDS OF PRINCE DURYODHANA

In the battle, Karna’s wheel was submerged in the ground. He was defeated and overtaken by a hardship. That foremost among men was trying to extricate it and you had him killed. Had you fought me, Karna, Bhishma and Drona through fair means, it is certain that you would not have been victorious. However, you adopted ignoble and deceitful methods.
EXPLAINATION –

1) Duryodhan himself mentioned the death of Karna while extracting wheel of chariot.

2) As per Duryodhana, Pandavas could never won war only if they fought fairly with Karna, Bhishma and Drona.

3) Duryodhana was there to withness final encounter between Karna and Arjuna. When arjuna attacked standard of Karna's chariot, duryodhana was disappointed. He saw the death of his best friend right in front of his eyes

BORI Critical Edition -

O venerable one! When that standard was uprooted, fame, dharma, victory and everything that was dear to the hearts of the Kurus also fell down. Great sounds of lamentation arose.
4) Duryodhana himself narrated the unfair death of Karna while lifting wheel of chariot. It proves that

a) Karna was unarmed
b) Karna was chariotless
c) Karna was heedless (not engaged in war)

B) APPROVAL OF GOLDEN WORDS OF DURYODHANA BY GODS, APSARAS, SIDDHAS OF HEAVEN

On seeing these wonderful sights, they, with Vasudeva at the forefront, were ashamed and honoured Duryodhana. On hearing that Bhishma, Drona, Karna and Bhurishrava had been slain through adharma, theyVgrieved and wept in sorrow. The Pandavas were distressed and immersed in thought.
EXPLAINATION –

1) After hearing golden words of Duryodhana, all gods adopted the side of Duryodhana. All of them approved the words of Duryodhana and accepted that Karna, Bhishma, Drona and Bhurishrava were killed through adharma.

2) Arjuna and other pandavas headed by lord Krishna were ashamed and hang down their heads in shame for killing karna through adharma. It was the epic scene where arjuna hang down his head in shame and began to cry for his cowardice

C) APPROVAL OF GOLDEN WORDS OF DURYODHANA AND GODS BY LORD KRISHNA

On seeing this, Krishna spoke these words, in a voice that rumbled like clouds and drums. ‘All of them were swift in the use of weapons and were maharathas. In a fair fight, even if we fought bravely, we were incapable of defeating them in the battle. That is the reason I thought of means to slay those lords of men. Otherwise, the Pandaveyas would never have obtained victory. Those four great-souled ones were atirathas on earth. Following dharma, even the guardians of the world themselves would not have been able to kill them
EXPLAINATION –

1) Finally, after feeling ashamed, Lord Krishna revealed the truth and admitted that those four warriors (Karna, Bhishma, Drona and Bhurishrava) were incapable of being defeated in fair battle.

2) (Arjuna unable to withstand Karna and Bhishma, Dhristdyumn unable to withstand Drona, Satyaki unable to withstand bhurishrava hence unfair means were adopted to kill those four atirathi warriors

D) CURSE OF BRAHMANA

When you clash against your foe and are distracted because the wheel of your chariot has been devoured by the earth, he will exhibit his valour and sever your head. O stupid one! Leave this place.Just as you were distracted when you acted against me, another person will sever and bring down your head while you are distracted.’

EXPLAINATION –

1) Apart of lord shiva, curse of Brahmin also helped arjuna to kill Karna. As per curse of brahmana, karna will be killed by his rival when he will be heedless in battle means not engaged in battle.

2) When karna was extracting wheel of chariot, it was only time when karna was not fighting and arjuna took opportunity to aim heedless Karna

E) KARNA'S WIFE SAID 'SHAME' TO ARJUNA FOR HIS COWARD ACT

BORI Critical Edition

Stri Parv, Section-21

Behold Karna’s wife, Vrishasena’s mother. She has fallen down on the ground and is lamenting and weeping in piteous tones. ‘It is certain that the preceptor ’s curse followed you. That is the reason the earth swallowed up the wheel of your chariot. Then, in the midst of the enemy in the battle, Dhananjaya’s arrow severed your head.’ Alas! Shame!
RESULT –

KARNA WAS EXTRACTING WHEEL OF CHARIOT WHEN LORD SHIVA KILLED KARNA AIMED BY ARJUNA AND UNFAIR DEATH SANCTIONED BY PRINCE DURYODHANA. LORD KRISHNA, GODS, APSARAS. SIDDHAS AND GANDHARVAS

a) Karna was weaponless
b) Karna was chariotless
c) Karna was heedless (not engaged in battle)

CONCLUSION

According to BORI Critical Edition, Karna was weaponless, chariotless and heedless, enaged in extracting wheel of chariot when Arjuna aimed Karna from backside and Shiva shot arrow in order to rectify unarmed target of Arjuna

  2. Nice explaination. If Karna and Duryodhan are the bearer's of dharma then Mahabharata has failed to explain what was the point of the great war, with Krishna who is Vishnu siding pandavas.
Also regarding the supreme Lord, sometimes Bhrama is shown as the mightiest, then Narayana,(Vishnu to garuda"I'm the god whose boon do not decay) then to add to confusion Vishnu is the youngest adhityas a younger brother to sakra (it is not specified it's vaman),then also Shiva is shown most supreme.

    1. Lord Vishnu born as Vaman as son of Aditi. Hence he is known as one in 12 Adityas ( sons of Aditi ).

In case of Karna, Karna ran away from battle many times and was defeated many times. I've extracted screenshots from VedVyass Mahabharat to prove how many times Karna lost to Arjun, Bhima, Drupad, Satyaki, Abhimanyu etc.

    2. Arjuna lost many times even when lord Krishna was on his chariot'. Also check out Karna Vs Arjuna fb page. They have posted proof from authentic Mahabharata on how Arjuna was defeated by Susharma, Achyutayus, Dritaverman, Srutayudha, Bhagdatta, Saindhiva Foot soldiers, Samspatakas, Karna, Ashwathama, etc.

    Karna Parv, Section-67

    Translation by B.Debroy –

At that time, the earth trembled and the son of a suta became confused in the battle. Because of the brahmana’s curse, the chariot was whirled around in the encounter.Because of Rama’s curse, the weapons no longer manifested themselves.

    |बलेनाथ स संस्तभ्य ब्रह्मास्त्रं समुदैरयत्।
    ऐन्द्रास्त्रमर्जुनश्चापि तदृष्ट्वाभिन्यमन्त्रयत् ।।४८ ।।

    Translation by B.Debroy –

Karna trembled. However, he exhibited great capacity. Using his strength, he invoked brahmastra.
    Karna Parv, Section-29

    Translation by B.Debroy –

For the sake of victory, I will use my mental powers to hurl the brahmastra at Partha. It is unrivalled and is victorious. In the battle, he will not be able to escape from it, unless my wheels get stuck in uneven terrain.

    EXPLAINATION –

It is said that Brahmastra was one of the most destructive weapon later shot by skilled arher. Poor archers like arjuna were unable to shoot it with great efficiency that why his all three brahmastras missed target and failed to give small scratch to Karna or his chariot. It was pathetic failure of brahmastra of vimna partho. There are many ways to shoot brahmastra and shooting brahmastra by using mind alone is the most difficult way. Karna was the ONLY warrior who was mentally strong enough to hurl Brahmastra without bow by using his mental powers.
Ye apko keval galat sections bata raha hei aursath hi sath chutiya bhi bana raha hei
It was after arjun lost counciousness that karna went for the wheel of chariot and krishna slew him with the help of arjuna so dont show people ur incirrect knowledge if u cant acknowledge karna andhbhakt mat bano even arjuna will be ashamed of u
